Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge

Writing figurative language is very challenging for me. When we were assigned to write about hard challenges in our lives, it was hard for me to confront my life. I have not had a lot of happy and fun experiences throughout my life, so when we were told to confront these things, it was extremely hard for me. I tend to ignore and block out my negative experiences. I refuse to let myself think and reflect on these things. I didn't want to finish this assignment because it meant I had to confront my life.  absent absent

Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

Writing similes and metaphors about my life struggles today was hard and challenging. I had plenty of experiences to use for this activity, I just had a hard time forming them into sentences, especially to re-write them into similes and metaphors. Metaphors were more challenging for me to write. They are hard for me because they are kind of their own thing.  today in class we wrote metaphors and similes based on our life experiences.  I learned about how to confront my experiences and word them into concise sentences.

Describe how you spent your time, any activities, traditions, travel, hobbies, or moments that stood out to you. You may also discuss something new you tried, something you learned, or how the break helped you reset before returning to school.

Over break, I didn't do a lot. I mostly just caught up on sleep and went to work. I did also attend my best friends 17th birthday party which I had a lot of fun at. Work was pretty easy but tiring. While on break, my body really needed to catch up on sleep so most days I ended up sleeping around 15 hours. Now of course, I am having trouble sleeping.  Today in class we worked on finding metaphors and similes in a Maya Angelo poem. I learned about how to keep moving forward and to keep rising.

If you had to describe how you show love using only three objects (for example: a playlist, a hoodie, a late-night snack, a long text message, etc.), what would you choose and why? Explain what each object represents and how it connects to your personality.

Showing love consists of many different things. The list could be as short as you want or as long as you want. Three example though are, crafts, food, and words/texts. I used these things to help show my love towards the people I love. For example, I love to do cute crafts and give them to my boyfriend. He was telling me about how he love  Lord Of The Rings, so I decided to make a giant map from the book for him. He was so happy. His smile made every late night, hand cramps, and struggle all worth it. Also, I am a huge sweet tooth, along with my boyfriend. Whenever I am out I always try to grab candy or a snack for him. Lastly, I love texting him. Yes I prefer to see him in person, but I love when I get to text him because his words to me are always so sweet. Also, I have the background as a silly picture of him so that always makes me laugh.  Today in class I wrote my essay I learned a lot of rhetorical analysis

Explain how this experience impacted your confidence as a writer and whether you feel prepared to continue analyzing complex speeches and texts in American Literature. Support your reflection with specific references to the writing process.

This experience of writing an essay helped to boost my confidence as a writer. For a while now, I have been in a writing slump. I don't like to write creatively nor do I enjoy it. I am bad at it and I can never come up with things to write. This essay though, helped me a lot. I haven't written an essay in a long time, so this was a nice change. The only other recent time that I have written an essay was in Ap American History. I do struggle with writing essays in that class though. I can read and concentrate anymore. I don't know what happened. I used to love to read and I would everyday for hours. Then I just couldn't focus one day. My focus never came back. That is why I am struggling with writing complicated AP essays. This essay though really helped me a lot. I love to write and I am glad that Mr. Rease has helped to reignite my love for writing and hopefully reading again.  absent absent

Reflect on one step of the rhetorical analysis process that helped you understand the process more clearly. Explain what you learned during that step and how it improved your ability to analyze a speaker’s message.

One step that helped me prep for my Rhetorical essay the most was finding different Rhetorical appeals and writing down the examples of them. This helped me a lot. When I started to write my essay, I already had all of my devices I would use and the examples of them being used. I will try to use this for the rest of my essays, to further help me in the future.  Today in class we finished prepping our essays and we starting writing them. I learned about how to properly and successfully prep a rhetorical essay.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day week, describe your idea of a perfect day spent with someone you care about (a friend, family member, or significant person in your life).

Someone that I care a lot about is my boyfriend. A perfect day with him would be any sort of quality time together. I don't care what exactly we do but as long as we are together I am perfectly happy and contempt. Even when we just sit together and do nothing, that is a perfect day to me. I enjoy going out, staying home, being productive, rotting in bed, etc. when we are together.  Today we started working in prepping our essay. I learned about Obama's speech in New Hampshire.

What is the best piece of advice of that your parent or guardian has given you? Tell what the advice was and what prompted you to ask the question.

Some of the best advice that a guardian has ever given me was that its ok to ask and get help for my mental health. For many years, I refused to get help for my anxiety. I had many people tell me I needed to tell my parents so they could find someone who could help me. My trainer (for horse back Riding) recommended that I try anxiety medicine. I refused though because I was scared to admit I needed help. I didn't want anyone to know that I was struggling. She saw the worse of my struggles, as I tried to hide it from everyone else. Finally, after years of struggling and refusing to seek help, my sophomore chemistry teacher, Ms. Murphy, called my mom and said, "your daughter is struggling. You need to get her help." After that, my whole world changed. I went on medicine and I have never felt better. I wasn't having panic attacks every day, I didn't feel constantly anxious and worried. I felt like I could catch my breath for the first time. I don't know what I w...

What is the most challenging part of working in a group? Discuss a time when a group assignment did not go as well as you planned and how you learned from that experience.

The most challenging part of working in a group is dividing up the work load. I am a perfectionist so I prefer to work alone. When I am working in a group though, I try to push those feelings aside and get the work done. Also, I usually end up having to lead the group which is tiring after a while. For example, in my ROTC class, I am in a leadership role so everyone always relies on me to figure everything out. At the same time though, I feel bad if I am not doing something. That is why I like to do projects alone. Classwork on the other hand, I don't have these problems that badly.  Today in class we worked on a writeable. I learned what a good, bad, and ok Rhetorical response looks like.

What is the most challenging part of writing an essay for you? Is it brainstorming, organizing ideas, writing a strong thesis, or something else? How do you plan to overcome this challenge?

The most challenging part of writing an essay for me is coming up with an idea. If it is creative writing, which I don't enjoy, I tend to struggle with finding a plot. If it is historical or evidence based, I don't struggle with it at all. To overcome this challenge, I try to find a reference to base my thought process off of.  absent absent

Describe a real moment in your life that felt like the beginning of a powerful story. Tell what happened, and why it felt like a turning point in your life?

One moment in my life that was a major turning point was when I realized my best friend wasn't a good person and didn't have good interests in mind for me. It was sophomore year when we became friends but I didn't realize the truth until the beginning of Junior year.  I realized that she was lying to me about major life changing things in her life. I also realized that she only talked to me when she needed something. If I tried to talk about me or something that didn't revolve around her she would interrupt and change the conversation back to her. When the beginning of Junior year started, I pulled away from everyone because of some personal family issues, mainly her. She would call me everyday for hours and talk about the same thing every day. I had too much to deal with so I pulled away. When I did, I realized how toxic she was being. After I realized this, I made the decision that I should stay away from her for good, so that is what I have done.  Today we worked on...
