Write about what you are thankful for.

I am thankful for my boyfriend Talley. Throughout my life, I have had some bad friends. None of them were accepting or supportive about my home life, and me as a person. The very few people that I have told about my family have all left, but not him. Before we started dating, I warned him about my family having a bumpy and complicated life. I told him that if he wanted to back out I wouldn't be mad at all. Instead of running, he said, "I don't care if you don't care". I have never had someone be ok with everything that follows me. As cringy as this sounds, he has been the only person in my life to never judge me or walk out. When I opened up about the rash I get on my chest whenever I eat gluten, he said that it didn't matter. When I asked my family and friends about it, they would say things like "ew" or "that's bad you should hide that". He didn't though. He said, "you could have it all over your face and body and I would st...

Write about a moment when new information changed your perception of a person or situation. How did that “plot twist” reshape your understanding, the same way Faulkner’s ending reshapes the story?

When my non-blood mother Kelsea, (close family friend that I view as my mother) told me about her harsh childhood life, it made me view her and life differently. I have always been worried that I am going to turn out like my parents. When I told her this, she shared her story to me. Her parents were abusive and very cruel to her. She moved out at 16 and made her own life. She had no support or help but she made it through. She helped me realize that my family's bad choices don't have to reflect on me if I don't want them to. She is living proof of that. I am so thankful for her everyday, and I am glad she told me a part of her story.  Absent Absent

Write about the most shocking or “craziest” news story you have ever heard. What happened, and why did it stand out to you? How did people react to it, and what does it reveal about human behavior?

The other day, I heard about how a person at our school had gotten in a fight with someone that was so bad they had to go to the hospital. My boyfriend saw the guy on the floor after the fight. He said that he was covered in blood, and bleeding out. Apparently, the kid he was fighting had scissors or something, and hit the guy with them. It is really crazy to me that two kids could do that to each other, at our own school.  Absent Absent

Describe a time that you had an encounter with a homeless person, either directly or indirectly. What did you think and how did it make you feel?

I have had a lot of different encounters with homeless people. The most outrageous one that comes to mind was when I was with my step sister. We were stopping at a gas station to fill up our tank when a homeless  man came up to her. I was sitting in the car but we had the windows down so I could hear the conversation. She had on slides, and the man started to compliment her feet. She awkwardly said thank you and tried to end the conversation. He then asked her if it would be ok if he could take pictures of her feet. She declined, but he then asked if he could give her a foot massage. She declined again. He finally went away and we started dying laughing. I know that this story sounds very fake but this story is 100% true.  We began the writable assignment I learned what Grotesque means.

Describe a place that holds deep memories for you—positive or negative—and explain how it reflects part of who you are or how you’ve changed over time.

One place that holds deep memories for me is the barn. I have been riding for 7 years and I have made so many great memories with it. How I have changed as a rider shows how I have changed as a person. Through riding, I have overcome so much in life. My progress in riding reflects my progress in mental health, physical health, relationships, and my life in general. Today in class we began reading A Rose For Emily I learned about how the main character Emily is changing over time.

Write about a time you saw or heard one of these words outside of the classroom — maybe in a movie, song, social media post, or book. Describe how it was used and whether the context helped you understand the word better.

One word from today's lesson that I have heard outside of the classroom was metamorphosis. It was in the show How To Train Your Dragon: Race To The Edge, which I used to watch a lot as a kid. In the show, the character gets bit by something and believes that he is going to turn into a dragon. He keeps going around saying the metamorphosis was happening and he wasn't going to stay man for long. That episode helped me understand the word a lot.  Today in class we worked on our vocabulary assignment. I learned many new words.

Thinking about “The Rockpile,” which parent or guardian in your life has been the strictest when it comes to discipline? Explain how their approach to discipline has influenced you or shaped your behavior.

Out of all of my parents, my dad was the strictest one. He has cameras inside and outside his house. He put alarms on all of the doors leading outside. When we were kids and one of us would get in trouble, he would make us pick which belt to be punished with. His punishments have impacted me a lot because they showed me to not act bad unless I was willing to face the consequences.  absent absent

Thinking about "The Rockpile," what is something your parents forbade you from doing when you were growing up? Explain what it was and why they might have set that rule.

One thing my parents forbade me from doing when I was a kid was walking alone. If I wanted to go for a walk, I had to have someone go with me. I had this rule set until I was 14. My parents set this rule because there is a lot of creepy people in the world. They wanted to make sure I was safe and lower the risk of something bad happening to me. We read the Rockpile I learned about the how every neighborhood has a "rockpile"

Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.

Learning new words to use in writing helps me feel smarter and more sophisticated. I struggle a lot with finding new words and not repeating the same objective/word when I am writing. But, when I do learn some new words, they help me with that issue. absent  absent
