Write about something you believed was true as a child

As a child, I believed that the tooth fairy was real. When I would lose a tooth, I would get so excited to have a fairy come to my room and visit me. Also, she would give me money that I could keep in my piggy bank. As I got older though, the tooth fairy would always forget and started to get my teeth the day after. That is when I realized that the tooth fairy was my parents.  Absent Absent

Write about a fear you have overcome

One fear that I have overcome is the fear of acknowledging my mental health. For the longest time, I had been afraid of acknowledging my mental health. I was worried that if I did, things would get worse. Last year for the first time, I let myself think and know about how I was feeling. I always shut my feelings out scared of what they would do but now, I embrace them.  Today in class we practiced finding claims I learned about this new idea about college getting shortened from four years to three years for some degrees

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

As I grow older one topic I think that I will have to face more often is asking people to respect my space. I am the type of person who enjoys their space. Yes, I love my friends and hanging out but I need that time to myself and recharge. As I get older, people may not respect this and I will have to explain this to them.  Absent Absent

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

One truth that was hard for me to accept was the fact that I had to give up my lease on my horse. Riding has been apart of my life for 6 years now and I love it will all of my heart. My dad made some bad financial decisions and lost all of his money. That is why I had to give my lease up. Instead of going out to ride at least every other day, I now only get to go maybe once every other week. Riding has gotten me through so much. The thought of going from seeing all of them often to seeing them rarely broke my heart. Everyday it has been harder and harder to accept this new reality of mine. I hope that one day my dad can fix his mistakes so I will be able to be with my real family again.  Today in class we learned about argumentative writing. I learned about Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

When I was a little girl, my sister spilled a drink on the rug. My mom came in and saw the mess my sister had made. At the time, her and I shared a room. Because I was older than her, my mom automatically assumed I had made the mess. She didn't let me explain and I was punished for my sisters mess. Today in class we did a commonlit I learned about fear

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

If I were learning about Hispanic heritage for the first time I would be curious about what their traditions and foods are like. Every culture has some differences and similarities between themselves and others so I would be curious about what those would be. Today in class we did notes I learned about what things the class views as overrated.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Out of all of the posters from today, Logans caught my eye. It had lots of pictures and colors. He also put a talking gorilla that kept the class entertained while he was presenting.  Today we presented our digital posters Today I learned about a piece of everyone's life through poetry

Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

One time that comes to mind when I think about someone being out of place in my world was my dad at my horse shows. I almost always would go by myself. I also go to practice by myself. On the rare occasion that him or any of my family shows up, it feels weird and out of place.  Today we just worked on the common lit I learned what the word interloper meant

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

I believe that of today, the words that we are going to be using the most will be ambiguous, amorphous, and affinity. I picked these words because I have used synonyms to these words before in class and I believe that we will continue to use those words just in a different way.  Today we went over notes I learned a useful way to write an essay

What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

The thing that I love the most about the lakeside community is the people. I have met some amazing people. To show off school spirit, I always dress up for the themes. If I attend a football game, I also dress for that theme. Finally, my favorite Homecoming tradition is dressing up. I love to dress up for spirit week along with the Homecoming dance.  Absent Absent

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

The learning method that I prefer the most is taking notes. When I am taking notes I am able to really absorb all of the information necessary in my own words and way. Also, I am able to go back and look at my notes and see what we did when I am confused.  Today in class we started our digital posters for our poems. I learned that I struggle really hard with writing poetry.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

The thing that I enjoy the most about writing poetry is being able to speak from my heart. Usually when I write, it is for school on a topic that I don't particularly enjoy. With this poetry assignment though, I am able to write whatever I would like.  Today in class we worked on writing our poems I learned that I am not very good at writing poetry

Write about your most absurd personal experience

One of my most absurd experiences was one of the times when I was almost kidnapped. My friend and I were walking around together at night over the summer. We were just walking and catching up when a car slowed down at us and rolled the window down. The driver didn't say anything but he stuck his head out of the window staring at us. My friend and I turned around and started the walk the other way. The car decided to also turn around and head our way. My friend and I run up a random driveway that was very steep and dark so the car couldn't see us hiding at the top. The car was unable to see us but we could see the cars headlights. While we sat there, the car decided to circle a few times looking for us, but then they finally gave up and drove off. We waited for a few minutes before heading back down. We decided to hang out somewhere safe and not walk around. Today in class we analyzed a poem written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. I learned about how the greatest acrobat walked acros...

If asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

One song I would choose to describe my life right now would be When the party's over  cover by Lewis Capaldi. I have always loved and related to most of his songs along with Billie Elish who was the one who wrote when the party's over . I relate to this song because my friend and I over the summer would walk around at night. We wouldn't do anything bad, just hang out and enjoy each other's company. He helped me escape from my home life for a little bit. When I came home though, I was by myself and reminded of what my life was.  Today we worked on finishing analyzing Emily Dickinson's poems I learned that I do really like Emily's poems.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

If I were to compose a poem about my life I would compose it about my emotions. I have a hard time understanding and accepting my emotions, so I would want to write a poem to help others not feel alone with this. My life message would be that its ok to feel your emotions. You should try and understand what you are feeling and not always bottle and shut them down.  Today in class we worked on some more Emily Dickinson poems I learned today that there are songs that have the same message but in a different form.

How has class been going for you so far?

Class has been going pretty good. I have learned a lot without being overloaded. I also made a new friend who is very sweet. I have always wanted to get better at analyzing poems and this class is helping to teach me how to do that. Right now I have an A in the class and I would like to keep that all year long.  Today in class we analyzed more of Dickinson's poem and began to work on our Dickinson Soundtrack I learned about how death doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Describe one thing that makes you different from other?

One thing that makes me different from other people is my family dynamic. The usual person has two parents, I have four. Also, I am one of six kids. I have one older step brother, one older step sister, one older brother, one younger step sister, and one younger sister. I have never met anyone that also has six or more siblings or four parents. This difference though doesn't bother me. For the majority of my life, I have had this family dynamic so why would I want to change it? Today in class we analyzed more of Emily Dickinson's poems I learned about what it is like to want to love someone while also wanting to let them go.
